The World Expo in 2010 (2010年世博会)
（一）Shanghai will host the 2010 World Expo. The World Expo has a long history but it has never been held in Asia. So the 2010 World Expo is an honor for all of the Asians. Our governmenthas promised that it will be the best one. And Shanghai, as a host city, will have more chances to develop quickly. As a student in Shanghai, I should learn English well so that I can be a volunteer in the Expo to help foreigners know more about Shanghai.
First, I'll say something about World Expo History. As we know, the very first World Expo, the Great Exhibition of 1851, took place in the Crystal Palace in London. UK. Ever since then, the goals of World Expos have been both high-minded as well as commercial. Visitors are able to explore the world outside of their everyday experience-outside cultures, new scientific advancements, and new inventions. World Expos have excited and inspired more and more people in the world.
（二）Look at this profile carefully. The title is “The 2010 World Exposition ,Shanghai, China ”. this is the logo.
And the theme is “better city., better life”.OK, let's guess who is the image representative? Yeah, you're right, Yao Ming!
Shanghai Expo is the first comprehensive World Expo held in a developing country. The World Expo is a large-scale, global, non- commercial Expo. It aims to promote the exchange of ideas and development of the world' s economy, culture, science and technology, to allow exhibitors to publicise and display their achievements and improve international relationships. Accordingly, the World Expo with its 150 year history is regarded as the Olympic Games of economy, science and technology.
The World Expo is a global event, huge in space and content. The Expo does not discriminate against exhibitors on any basis whether it be political, religious or racial,creating an opportunity for the host country to publicize itself and improve foreign relations.
The first World Expo was held in London on 1 May 1851. At that time, Britain was the greatest power in the world. To display the power and pride of the country, the British government built a 1,700 feet long and 100 feet high "Crystal Pa lace" in Hyde Park with 4,500 tons of steel and 300,000 blocks of glass (later de stroyed in the Second World War). Queen Victoria invited ten countries to exhibit products inside this "Palace". A total of 6.3 million people attended the Expo throughout the 160 days of its duration.
